Nurturing Parenting Program

With this program, our goal is to serve as a resource to teach parenting and life skills, and provide a safe, comfortable, and supervised setting at our main office so parents can focus on maintaining strong bonds and effective parenting techniques with their children.

Program Overview

The Nurturing Parenting Program currently provides three services: Supervised Visitation, Children In Between and Nurturing Parenting Classes.

The Supervised Visitation Program (SVP) is designed to build healthy connections between children and their non-custodial parent during periods of family separation. In these challenging and often traumatic times, SVP protects the wellbeing and safety of children and families while facilitating nurturing, strengths-based, and trauma-informed visits between children and parents.  Maintaining parental connection is critical to a child’s emotional, social, and behavioral development, and for establishing successful family reunification.

Children In Between is an evidence-based, comprehensive co-parenting program that assists professionals in teaching parents how to manage the stress of divorce or separation, and to mitigate the negative effect it can have on their children.

The 12 week evidence-based Nurturing Parenting Classes are family based interventions, where parents and their children learn similar knowledge and skills for improving the quality of their lives.

Criteria

  • The Nurturing Parenting classes are open to any parent/guardian/caretaker who is interested in learning new ways to work together as a family.

  • Supervised Visitation is open to any non-custodial parent/grandparent who requires a neutral third party and environment to assist in facilitating a visit.

  • No particular county residency is required to participate in Nurturing Parenting classes or Supervised Visitation.

Making A Referral

The Court typically refers clients to this program; however, self-referrals or other professional referrals are also accepted and may be made by calling our program manager, Katie Clark, at (315) 792-9039.

Access To Resources

We connect individuals and families with critical community resources, such as access to physical and mental health providers, employment opportunities, housing options, peer support groups, and Wraparound services. We understand that access to some of these services can be difficult to attain during certain life challenges, and we are here to help individuals and families overcome this obstacle.

Children have an inherent need to see their parents, to talk with them, sit with them, laugh with them and be held by them. This program helps safely fill some of that need and can give a child reassurance that even though they are not together they are still loved, valued and wanted.
