Kids Oneida spotlights Special Olympian Taylor Wolfe

The Special Olympic Summer Games were held in Utica NY in June 2011, marking the 2nd year in a row Utica has hosted this event. More than 1,500 athletes and coaches from across the state come to the Special Olympics each year to compete in events such as Basketball, Bowling, and Swimming.

15 year old Taylor Wolfe of Utica was one of these athletes, making his mark in the competition’s swimming category. Taylor was one of only eleven swimmers in Central New York region to compete in the State Games, winning two first place ribbons in the qualifying races. He went on to win a silver medal in freestyle, a bronze in backstroke and a fourth place ribbon for the four person relay.

Taylor’s Special Olympics participation will not end at this year’s Summer Games; he already has his sights set on competing in the Special Olympics Cycling category this fall and is currently training with his step-father. Good luck Taylor!
