In June 2008, Kids Oneida expanded services to reach youth and families in Herkimer County. For the past year, Kids Herkimer has been working to reduce the amount of time Herkimer County youth spend in residential placements by providing intensive supportive services in community-based settings.

According to Herkimer County Coordinator Brandi Candido, Kids Herkimer has had a 100% success rate of keeping kids in the community who have returned from placement. Kids Herkimer services have filled a critical gap in Herkimer County by providing high intensity services that have never before existed for youth and families in that area. "Things have gone really well [in Herkimer County]. We have been successful, in part, because youth and families have welcomed us with open arms," Candido said. Kids Oneida Residential Outreach Manager Steve Bulger added that "Kids Herkimer has given youth more opportunities to succeed and has given them and their families a voice to express their concerns and needs which has allowed us to better adapt services to fit their particular situations." Congratulations to Kids Herkimer on a successful first year!
